In celebration of our 30th-anniversary, we have been highlighting some of our longstanding customers, and INEOS Grangemouth (formerly BP) is probably one of the most pivotal customer relationships in our company history.
BP awarded us our first major pallet contract in 1989, and we have retained continuous supply to the Grangemouth site, now owned by INEOS, throughout the years, and remain a major pallet supplier today as well as supplying branded workwear, PPE and a wide range of engineering consumables.
INEOS uses approximately 120,000 pallets annually, transporting its chemicals products to customers throughout the UK. With these volumes, and the cargo, front of mind, we have worked on pallet improvement projects to enhance pallet safety and design.
From our Burntisland site, just 30 miles from Grangemouth, we are able to offer INEOS a reliable and continuous supply of CP7 pallets (heat treated, licensed, chemical pallets) which flexes and adapts depending on demand from the INEOS plant.
The supply of pallets is backed up by our strong account management service and good relations at a local level – between our manufacturing site and the INEOS manufacturing site.
Gillian Whyte, Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain at INEOS, said:”We are very happy with Scott Pallets and value the long-term relationship between INEOS O&P UK at Grangemouth and Scott’s. They actively look for ways to add value and improve the costs and service.”
We also provide new pallets and a pallet recovery service to INEOS’ salt manufacturing site in Runcorn.
Our Scott Direct business has now been supplying INEOS for the past four years. Bespoke, branded safety clothing and workwear is supplied from Seahawk; and safety boots, eye protection and engineering consumables are supplied by Scott Direct. We also provide a specialist sourcing service to INEOS for hard to find items, for example, specialist imported engineering products. For standard items, INEOS keeps stock at its Grangemouth site, which is backed-up by mirror stock at our local Scott Direct warehouse.
Dealing with multiple stakeholders, including engineering teams, buyers, stock control, subcontractors and the health and safety team, Scott Direct has been supporting INEOS with product and supply chain rationalisation to help minimise price increases wherever possible.
We are continually improving our service for INEOS including the integration of stock systems and moving towards more online services. Our Business Development Manager, Chris Pauley, also supports INEOS’ PPE forum by attending monthly meetings, and contributing to other internal safety events.
Grangemouth represents INEOS’ largest manufacturing site by volume of products. It is also home to Petroineos, Scotland’s only crude oil refinery and produces the bulk of fuels used in Scotland.
