The 118.5m general cargo vessel “Norrland” has arrived from Riga, Latvia, carrying 6678m³ of sustainably sourced timber exclusively for Scott Pallets. This is understood to be the largest pallet wood vessel to arrive in the UK to date!
At a time when shipping is under severe pressure globally, with many national shortages across all types of timber products, we took the proactive decision to engage with this vessel as part of our sourcing strategy that ensures continued security of supply for our customers throughout the UK.
The timber on board was a mix of hardwood and softwood species, all from sustainably managed forests. We’ve had a dedicated procurement team based in Latvia since 2004, and it’s thanks to the strong relationships and experience of our team here, that we’ve managed to accrue this valuable cargo.
The vessel, which took five days to load, was at sea for six days on its journey to us and will take five days to discharge at the port of Rosyth before its journey onward to our manufacturing facilities.
The Norrland was built in 2006 and sails under the flag of Cyprus with Limassol as its home port.
